The base catalyzed addition of hydroperoxides to oxiranes is restricted to ethylene oxide and alkyl substituted oxiranes. With increasing substitution the yields of β-hydroxy dialkyl peroxides decrease due to fragmentation. Oxiranes with electron withdrawing substituents do not react.
