Synthesis and structure of tetra-aqua-4-chloro-1,2-phenylenediamine-N,N,N′,N′-tetra-acetato-O1,O2,O3,O4,N,N′-cobalt(II) disodium; Na2[Co(4-Cl-o-PDTA)]·4H2O

A complex of cobalt(II) with 4-chloro-1,2-o-phenylenediamine-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid (4-Cl-o-PDTA) has been prepared and characterized by means of X-ray diffraction analysis as well as by spectroscopic, magnetic and thermal measurements. Each cobalt (II) is surrounded by four carboxylic oxygens and two amine nitrogens in a slightly distorted trigonal prism. Each sodium cation is six-coordinated to oxygen atoms of water molecules and carboxylate groups, in a distorted octahedron. The kinetics of the dehydration in the solid phase of the Na2[Co(4-Cl-o-PDTA)].4H2O complex were studied by thermogravimetric methods in a dynamic regime.
