gold dithiolene complexes of oligothiophene ligands which coordinate via a central thiophene-3,4-dithiolate chelate are presented. The oligomer chains are three, five and seven thiophenes long and the complexes display hybrid optoelectronic properties featuring characteristics of both the oligothiophene chains and the delocalised metal dithiolene centre. is observed in a novel cruciformoligothiophene containing a Ge (violet; see picture) spirocenter. Long‐range interchain interactions between molecules and strong electronic coherence between orthogonal chains within the molecules are present. Such ordering is advantageous for bulk charge transport, as demonstrated by high short‐circuit currents in bulk heterojunction organic solar cells.
