Synthesis and crystal structure of copper complex of bis(p-chlorophenol)-containing diaza-18-crown-6 ligand

A lariat crown ether ligand 7,16-bis (5-chloro-2-hydroxybenzyl)-1,4,10,13-tetraoxa-7,16-diazacyclo octadecane (H2L3) has been prepared via one-pot Mannich reaction. Reaction of H2L3 with Cu(NO3)(2) affords complex Cu-L-3. The complex was characterized by elemental analysis, IR and UV-visible spectroscopy. The crystal structure of the complex has been determined by X-ray diffraction study. The complexation results of Cu(NO3)(2) with diazacrown ethers containing different phenolic side arms are summarized and analyzed. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
