A photocatalyticcarboxylation of C−N bonds in cyclic amines with CO2 is realized by consecutive photo-induced electron transfer (ConPET). This mild and transition-metal-free protocol provides a general and practical route to valuable β-, γ-, δ- and ϵ-amino acids.
Aryl alkyl thioethers are an underutilized class of alkylradical precursors that are demonstrated to outperform their well-established sulfone analogues under electroreductive conditions. Single electron transfer results in C−S bond cleavage and alkylradicals that may react in C(sp3)−C(sp3) bond forming events or undergo radical-polar crossover, followed by protonation or carboxylation to furnish
