  Substituted 1-bromo-1-chlorocyclopropanes 2 were synthesized from dibromomethane, phenyltrichloromethane trichloride and alkenes 1 in the presence of 60% aqueous potassium hydroxide and tetrabutylammonium hydrogen sulfate as a catalyst (PTC system), in good yields.

  Dibromocarbene generated by the cathodic reduction of CBr4 reacts with cyclohexene or trimethylethylene with the formation of dibromocyclopropane derivatives; it can also enter into exchange processes with the chloride ion, which is present in solution, leading to bromochloro- and dichlorocarbenes. The reaction of these with olefins leads to the formation of the corresponding bromochloro- and dichlorocyclopropanes.
