A fast and highly enantioselectivefluorination of [small beta]-keto esters catalyzed by diphenylamine linked bis(oxazoline)-Cu(OTf)2 complexes under solvent-free conditions has been developed using a planetary ball mill.
Chiral bifunctional phase transfer catalysts introducing bis(diarylhydroxymethyl) substituents at 3,3â²-positions of the chiral binaphthyl core were successfully applied to asymmetric fluorination of cyclic β-keto esters with high enantioselectivities.

A highlyenantioselectivecatalytic method for the synthesis of quaternary α-fluoro derivatives of 3-oxo esters is described. The reactionuses europium (III) triflate and commercially available chiral pybox-type C2-symmetric ligand. Excellent results in terms of yields and enantioselectivities were assured using the electrophilic NFSI reagent under mild reaction conditions.
