of 3-substituted cis-dihydrodiols obtained by microbial oxidation of toluene, ethylbenzene, chlorobenzene, and biphenyl has been assigned from chemical and spectrophotometric studies. ϱ-Halogenated toluenes also have been investigated as substrates in these oxidations, and the corresponding cis-dihydrodiols isolated.
