This communication reports the first synthesis of a number of deep cavity tetraformyl calix[4]arene macrocycles and their use as key building blocks in the synthesis of a dynamic and the first static non-peptide macrocyclic library. (C) 2005 Published by Elsevier Ltd.
The synthesis of novel tetra-olefinic calix[4]arene carcerands is described using a synthetic strategy involving palladium catalysed Heck coupling followed by imine formation.
