    A curable latex composition, suitable for forming films and foams includes a carboxylated latex comprising a copolymer of from 0 to 75 % by weight of a vinyl aromatic monomer, from 0 to 85 % by weight of a diene monomer and from 0.5 to 25 % by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer, an epoxy resin emulsion containing an organo-soluble or organo; miscible catalyst and a water-soluble catalytic curing agent. The latex is produced by emulsion polymerization of one or more monomers in an aqueous environment. The various components of the curable latex composition may be maintained separately until shortly before use because of their ambient temperature curing properties. In some instances two or more components which do not react with each other can be premixed. The present curable latex composition has improved shelf life, cures fast at relatively low temperature and provides plastic films or foams with improved moisture resistance and other physical properties. This composition is suitable for use as latex foam backing of textiles, textile and lamination adhesive and synthetic carpet grass coating.

    A butadiene polymer latex is prepared by emulsion polymerizing appropriate monomers in the presence of polyvinyl alcohol and a stabilizing solvent. The butadiene polymer can be a butadiene homopolymer, copolymer or terpolymer prepared from butadiene monomers and optional comonomers such as α-haloacrylonitrile and acrylic acid. The butadiene polymer latices can be prepared without problems of coagulation and can be utilized effectively in adhesive compositions without the use of volatile solvents. Adhesive bonds prepared from the butadiene polymer latices also avoid the side effect problems associated with polymers prepared utilizing conventional surfactant-based emulsion polymerization techniques.

    Films comprising a resin matrix, an entanglement polymer, and a latent curative, wherein the resin has a functionality of at least 2.0 and a viscosity of at least 0.1 Pascal-seconds, and the film is dimensionally stable at 25° C. The films are particularly useful for the bonding of elastomers to rigid substrates, such as rubber to metal, and contain no volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and are shelf stable for extended periods of time.
