Allylic organotin compounds react with numerous organichalides by a substitution pathway with complete allylic shift. The radical chain mechanism proposed is supported by the reactivity sequences of halides, the stereochemistry, the influence of radical initiators or inhibitors, rearrangement, polar effects and the side products.

A silver(I) complex derived from a polyfluorinated tris(pyrazolyl)borate effectively catalyzes carbene transfer to allylic and propargylic halides, leading to the formation of alpha-haloacetate derivatives.
