Experiments with [14-2H2]linolenicacid confirm the requirement for a 13-hydroperoxide for 13-oxophytodienoic acid (12-oxoPDA) formation by a flaxenzymepreparation; an alleneepoxideintermediate is capable of explaining the formation of the acyclicα- and γ-ketols as well as 12-oxoPDA, suggesting the involvement of a singleenzyme.
