The reaction between the (pp3)Rh(I) fragment [PP3 = tris(2-(diphenylphosphino)ethyl)phosphine, P(CH2CH2PPh2)3] and NaSCH, readily yields the methylthiolate derivative [(pp3)RhSCH3]. The sulphur atom of this compound is attacked by the electrophile CF3SO3CH3 to yield the stable dimethylsulphide complex [(pp3)RhS(CH3)2]CF3SO3. Furthermore, the rhodium methylthiolate undergoes CS2 insertion to form the thioxanthate [(pp3)RhSC(S)SCH3], Which has been characterized by a complete X-ray crystallographic analysis.
