Binding of the late transition metal ions to the mixed N2S donor macrocyclic ligand 1-thia-4,7-diazacyclononane (= L1). X-ray crystal structures of [PtIV(L1)Br3]Br0.5·2H2O, [AuIII(L1)Cl2][AuCl4] and [Ag4(L1)4](CF3SO3)4

Complexes of the nine-membered macrocyclic ligand 1-thia-4,7-diazacyclononane (L1) with platinum(IV), gold(III) and silver(I) have been prepared and the X-ray crystal structures of [Pt(IV)(L1)Br3]Br0.5Cl0.5.2H2O (1a), [Au(III)(L1)Cl2][AuCl4] (2a) and [Ag4(L1)4](CF3SO3)4 (3a) determined. In the octahedral cation of 1a the ligand is bound facially. Complex 2a contains a planar AuCl2N2 unit and the thioether group is weakly donating [Au-S = 2.973(3) angstrom] to an axial site. In 3a, four AgL1 units are bridged by thioether groups to a centrosymmetrical [Ag4(L1)4]4+ tetramer. The exodentate Ag-S [2.403(2) and 2.415(2) angstrom] bonds are rather short.
