    Synthesis of 2,5- and 3,5-diphenylpyridine derivatives for DNA recognition and cytotoxicity
    摘要:
    A series of 2,5- and 3,5-diphenylpyridine derivatives was synthetised in high yields. A versatile chemical strategy allows the design of diphenylpyridines differently substituted with cationic or neutral side chains. The interaction of the molecules with DNA was investigated by biophysical and biochemical methods and an AT-binder (20) was characterised. A few cytotoxic molecules were identified but their antiproliferative activity does not correlate with DNA binding. Two compounds 18 and 22 showed significant antiproliferative activity and provide a novel route to potential anticancer agents. (c) 2005 Elsevier SAS. All rights reserved.

    Featured are novel heterocycle substituted hydroquinones, aromatic copolymers and homopolymers bearing main and side chain polar pyridine units. These polymers exhibit good mechanical properties, high thermal and oxidative stability, high doping ability and high conductivity values. These novel polymers can be used in the preparation and application of MEA on PEMFC type single cells. The combination of the above mentioned properties indicate the potential of the newly prepared materials to be used as electrolytes in high temperature PEM fuel cells.

    Novel polyethersulfone compositions have been discovered which incorporate structural subunits derived from sulfonated bis(halophenyl)sulfones, dihydroxy terphenyls, and/or bis(hydroxyphenyl)pyridines. The sulfonated polyethersulfones show promise as materials for use in polymer electrolyte membranes (PEMs) in fuel cells owing to their high proton conductivities (0.02-0.07 S/cm at 20° C. and 100 percent humidity). In addition, a novel unsulfonated thermoplastic polyethersulfone comprising structural subunits derived from a non-sulfonated bis(halophenyl)sulfone bis4-fluorophenyl)sulfone and 4,4′-dihydroxyphenyl-2,6-pyridine (CAS No. 171820-16-9) is disclosed.

  • Synthesis of dihydroxyoligophenylenes containing π-deficient or π-excess hetero-aromatic rings and their solvatochromic behavior

    Dihydroxyoligophenylenes (HO-ArPh(m)-OHs) with 9,9-dihexy1-2,7-fluorene (Ar=Flu), 2,5-dioctyloxy-1,4-benzene (Ar=Dob), pyridine (Ar=Py), or thiophene (Ar=Th) rings were synthesized by the Suzuki coupling reaction. Absorption maxima (lambda(max)) of HO-ArPh(m)-OHs shifted progressively toward long wavelengths due to the expansion of the it-conjugation system with an increase in the number of benzene rings. Deprotonation of the OH groups of HO-ArPh(m)-OHs by treatment with NaH caused a bathochromic shift of lambda(max). The bathochromic shift of the deprotonated species increased with the donor numbers (DNs) of the solvents. The emission peak positions of NaO-ArPh(m)-ONas depended on the DNs of the solvents; therefore, the emission color could be tuned by changing the solvent. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
