Synthesis of Sulfonyl Arenes via Hydroxy/Amino‐Benzannulation of Sulfonyl Enynals

An assorted set of sulfonyl arenes such as β‐naphthylamines, β‐naphthols, phenols and naphthalenes could be accessed in a divergent manner by base‐mediated annulation of sulfonyl enynals. The strategy is extended to the synthesis of heterocycles such as carbazole, quinoline and benzothiophene. Benzannulation is demonstrated on derivatives of natural steroids like estrone and cholesterol.

Sulfur-Assisted Propargyl−Allenyl Isomerizations and Electrocyclizations for the Convenient and Efficient Synthesis of Polyfunctionalized Benzenes and Naphthalenes
A facile and efficient electrocyclization for the synthesis of polyfunctionalized benzene and naphthalene derivatives was reported. As a result of the ready availability of starting materials and simple operation, this type of reaction has potential utility in organic synthesis.
