An efficient and mild method for the synthesis of α-halomethyl ketones from α-diazo ketones was developed using ferric chloride or bromide as the halogen source and silica gel as the hydrogen source, with good to excellent yields.
A simple and efficient method to obtain α-xanthylmethyl ketones from α-diazo ketones is described. The reaction proceeds through a protonation/nucleophilic substitution sequence in the presence of p-toluenesulfonic acid and potassium ethyl xanthogenate as the nucleophile. A three-component radical reaction of SF5Cl, alkenes, and diazo compounds for synthesis of α-alkyl-α-SF5 carbonyl compounds was developed. Furthermore, the three-component adducts formed from SF5Cl, α-diazoacetophenones and vinyl acetates were converted into pentafluorosulfanylfurans.
