  Disclosed are 2-cyanoethyl amino alkyl-3-phenyl indoles of the formula ##SPC1## Wherein n 1, X.sub.2, Y.sub.1 and Y.sub.2 are hydrogen or halogen, at least one of X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 being halogen; n is an integer selected from 1,2 and 3; and the acid addition salts thereof which are useful as antimicrobials.
