    An allyl type amine is prepared by reacting an allyl type alcohol represented by the following formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 independently stand for a hydrogen atom, an aliphatic hydrocarbon group or alicyclic hydrocarbon having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, or an aromatic hydrocarbon group, with at least one member selected from the group consisting of ammonia, a primary amine and a secondary amine in the presence of a palladium compound and a multidentate phosphorus compound.

    Novel catalyst compositions based upon: a) a Group VIII metal, b) an anion of an acid with a pKa of less than 6, c) a phosphorus bidentate ligand with the general formula (R¹)(R²)P-R-P(R¹)(R²) in which R¹ and R² represent identical or different optionally polar substituted hydrocarbyl groups and in which R is a divalent organic bridging group which in the bridge connecting the two phosphorus atoms with each other contains at least two carbon atoms, and d) an amine. They are especially suitable to prepare polymers of carbon monoxide and C₃₊ α-olefins having a low proportion of furandiyl groups.

  • Facile Formation of FePd Nanoparticles from Single-Source [1]Ferrocenophane Precursors

    Mixed-metal FePd alloy nanoparticles (NPs) have been synthesized in moderate yield (ca. 5560%) and at relatively low temperatures from single-source [1]ferrocenophane precursors. Thermolysis of [Fe(5-C5H4)(2)Pd(PnBu(3))(2)] (7) (1 h, 150 degrees C) and the new species [Fe(eta-C5H4)(2)PdPnBu(2)(CH2)(4)PnBu(2)}] (9) (1 h, 190 degrees C) afforded crystalline, heterobimetallic FePd alloy NPs with diameters of ca. 4 nm (11) and 3.5 nm (12), respectively, together with mixtures of unidentified, mainly ligand-derived products. Both sets of particles were analyzed by high resolution transmission electron microscopy, which, in addition to providing particle size, determined the spacing between the lattice fringes to be 0.23 nm. Evidence for the formation of alloy nanoparticles, rather than a mixture of those comprising pure metals, was obtained by energy-dispersive X-ray analysis, which confirmed the presence of both Fe and Pd in a single particle. This assertation was further supported by wide-angle X-ray scattering of 11 and 12, which displayed broad reflections at 2? = 40.58 degrees and 40.09 degrees, respectively, in good agreement with previous studies of FePd NPs. Atomic absorption spectroscopy was employed for bulk analysis of the particles and indicated that that the compositions of 11 and 12 were ca. Fe(3)5Pd(65).
