Abstract Activation of molecularoxygen (1 atm, room temperature) by the nitrosyl dimer [Fe(NO) 2 Cl] 2 in the presence of the bidentate nitrogen ligands NN (NN=2,2′-bipyridine (bpy), 4,4-dimethyl-2,2′-bipyridine (Me 2 bpy) and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen)) yields the moleculariron nitrates Fe(NO 3 ) 2 Cl(NN) and Fe(NO 3 )Cl 2 (NN).
