  Electrically conductive polymer compositions are prepared by oxidative polymerization of one or more aromatic compounds in the presence of a polymer b). Polymer b) has ammonium, phosphonium or sulfonium groups in the polymer chain(s) and comprises a polydentate anionic complex which has a redox potential sufficient for enabling oxidative polymerization of the aromatic compounds.
