Reactions of Bis(phenylethynyl)ytterbium with Trimethylsilicon, Triphenylgermanium, and Triphenyltin Chlorides

The ytterbium phenylethynyl compound (PhCdropC)(2)Yb(THF)(4) reacts with trimethylsilicon, triphenylgermanium, and triphenyltin chloride in tetrahydrofuran (THF) at room temperature to give the corresponding cross-coupling products: phenylethynylytterbium chloride PhCdropCYbCl(THF)(2) and ytterbium chloride YbCl2(THF)(2).
Synthesis, properties, and reactivity of the stilbene complex of ytterbium (PhCH=CHPh)Yb(THF)2. Crystal structure of (2,4,6-But 3C6H2O)2Yb(THF)3

The stilbene complex of ytterbium (PhCH=CHPh)Yb(THF)(2) (1) was prepared by the reaction of YbI2(THF)(2) with a twofold excess of (PhCH=CHPh)(-.) Li+. Based on the data of IR and ESR spectroscopy and on the results of magnetic measurements, compound 1 was characterized as a complex of divalent ytterbium with the stilbene dianion. The reactivity of complex 1 toward different types of reagents was studied. The structure of the product of the reaction of 1 with 2,4,6-tri(tert-butyl)phenol (2,4,6-(Bu3C6H2O)-C-t)(2)Yb(THF)(3) was established by X-ray diffraction analysis.
Synthesis and structure of organotin complexes of ytterbium

Reactions of Ph3SnCl, PhSnCl3 and Ph3SnSnPh3 With ytterbium in THF lead to the formation of the complex (Ph3Sn)2Yb(THF), (1) * in high yields. According to X-ray data, tin atoms in complex 1 are covalently bonded with the ytterbium atom. Ionic organotin complex of ytterbium [(Ph3Sn)3Sn]2-[Yb2Cl2(DME)6]2+ (2) was synthesised in 75% yield by the reaction of Ph2SnCl2 with ytterbium. According to X-ray analysis, the compound consists of [(Ph3Sn)3Sn]- anions and dimeric ytterbium cations with mu2-bridged chlorine atoms [GRAPHICS]
