A highly efficient and atom-economical construction of 2-substituted 5-hydroxybenzofurans was accomplished by employing a platinum-catalyzed domino dienone-phenol rearrangement/5-endo-dig cyclization reaction of quinols bearing alkynes.

We have demonstrated B 2 pin 2 as superior deoxidizing agent for the reductive deoxygenation of quinol derivatives under basic conditions. A wide range of highly functionalized phenols were obtained in good yields including complex drug molecule which revealed the high functional group tolerance of this protocol.

Agrochemically useful and structurally important, functionally rich tricyclic-oxadiazines were synthesized in very good yields with excellent diastereoselectivities through a catalytic [3 + 3]-cycloaddition from the readily available p-quinols, azomethine imines, and a catalytic amount of Brønsted base (KOtBu).
