  LiC(N2)SiMe3 in toluene at −78°C gave the α-diazoalkyl complexes [tBuP(CH2CH2CH2PPh2)2]RhC(N2)SiMe3, 3, and [tBuP (CH2CH2CH2PPh2)2]IrC(N2)SiMe3, 4, as air- and light-sensitive but thermally stable compounds, which were characterized by IR, 1H NMR and 31P NMR spectroscopy. The results of an X-ray structural study of complex 2 are also reported.
