  The diazo-α,α′-diketo-aldonic acid is prepared from the 1-deoxy-1-diazo-fructose by condensation with methyl oxalyl chloride in 61 % yield. The title compound is very labile towards base but is moderately stable towards acid. These properties are contrary to those observed for normal diazoalkanes.
