quater‐heteroaryls have been prepared under indium catalysis by nucleophilicaromaticsubstitution (SNAr). This is the first example of catalytic heteroaryl–heteroaryl bond formation based on SNAr between two heteroaryl substrates without needing activating groups to enhance their reactivity (see scheme; El=electrophile, In=In(OTf)3 or In(ONf)3, Nu=nucleophile).

A new method has been achieved to synthesize indoletrimers and tetramers starting from indoles and 3-bromoindoles. Unusual open and cyclic trimers have been isolated and characterized, and the mechanism of formation is proposed.

A general and selective method has been achieved to synthesize 2,3'- biindolyls and 2,2'-indolylpyrroles through an acid catalysed reaction of 3-bromoindoles with indoles or pyroles. I.R., 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and MS data of the dimers are also reported.
