Bioactivity-directed fractionation led to the isolation of a new N-(methoxycarbonyl) phenanthrene alkaloid, romucosine I (1), along with three known N-(methoxycarbonyl) alkaloids, romucosine C (2), tuduranine (3), and promucosine (4). The structures of these compounds were identified on the basis of spectral data and chemical evidence. A proposed biogenesis about these isolates is also reported in
