    The design and synthesis of inhibitors of dethiobiotin synthetase as potential herbicides

    Dethiobiotin synthetase (DTBS;E.C. 6.6.6.6), the penultimate enzyme in the biosynthesis of the essential vitamin biotin, is a new potential target for novel herbicides. Inhibitors were designed based on mechanistic and structural information. The in-vitro activities of these potential inhibitors versus the bacterial enzyme are reported here. Mimics of 7,8-diaminopelargonic acid (DAPA) or the DAPA carbamate reaction intermediate were substrates or partial substrates for the enzyme. Synergistic binding with ATP was noted with compounds which contained an amino functionality, NMR studies and X-ray structures confirmed that the inhibitors could be phosphorylated by the enzyme. Several series of potential inhibitors were designed to take advantage of this partial substrate activity by generating potentially more tightly bound phosphorylated inhibitors in situ, Structure-activity relationships for these series based on both substrate and inhibitory activity are described herein. An X-ray structure for one of these inhibitors is also discussed. Although considerable potential for inhibitors of this type was demonstrated, none of the compounds reported showed sufficient herbicidal activity to be a commercial proposition.     It was found that itaconitin, a yellow coloring matter of a mould Aspergillus itaconicus KINOSHITA, possesses a 3, 5-dienoic acid system which is converted into an aromatic ring by the action of acetic anhydride to give acetylanhydroitaconitin. Oxidation of hexahydroitaconitin with potassium permanganate, as well as the ozonolysis of the same substance yielded 2-methylnonanedioic acid. From these and other experimental data including nuclear magnetic resonance spectra, the structural formula of itaconitin and all its derivatives hitherto prepared were conclusively established.

    The present invention relates to a reusable print medium comprising a substrate and a sacrificial layer. The sacrificial layer contains a hotmelt composition at least comprising an amorphous material. The amorphous material is a resin being a reaction product of a first monomer A, said first monomer A being a polyhydroxyl alcohol comprising X hydroxyl functional groups, wherein X≧2, monomer A optionally comprises a primary or secondary amine functionality; a second monomer B, being an aromatic monocarboxylic acid; a third monomer C, said third monomer C being able to form an ester linkage with an alcohol and/or an amide linkage with a primary or secondary amine; and optionally, a fourth monomer D, being an aromatic monocarboxylic acid different from the second monomer B. The sacrificial layer including the printed image may be removed from the substrate by applying heat. A new sacrificial layer may be applied such that the reusable print medium is ready to be reused. The present invention also relates to a method of manufacturing a reusable print medium according to the present invention, a method of printing and recycling such a print medium and an apparatus for printing and recycling such a print medium.

    This invention provides a polyester, which is composed of a constitutive unit of formula (I) and a constitutive unit of formula (II) in a proportion of (I)/(II) of being from 0.1/99.9 to 99.1/0.1 as a molar ratio and which has a logarithmic viscosity (ηinh) of being 0.1 or more: where R₀ is a fluorine-free monovalent organic group having from 1 to 40 carbon atoms, R₁, R₂ and R₃ are independently a divalent organic group having from 1 to 40 carbon atoms, and n is 0 or 1.
