Fifteen new galactoglycerolipid analogues, in which one or two branched, alicyclic or aromatic acyl chains are linked to 2-O-beta-D-galacto-sylglycerol (6'-position or 1,6' positions), were prepared and tested for their anti-tumor-promoting activity using a short-term in vitro assay for Epstein-Barr virus early antigen (EBV-EA) activation. All compounds were active in inhibiting the EBV activation promoted by the tumor promoter 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA), the branched compounds resulting in the most active glycoglycerolipid analogues of the series. The branched 2-O-[6-O-(3-methylbutanoyl)-beta-D-galactopyranosyll-sn-glyceroI (1a) and the structurally related alicyclic 2-O-[6-O-(2-cyclohexylethanoyl)-beta-D-galactopyranosyl]-sn-glycerol (1d), when tested in an in vivo two-stage carcinogenesis test, exhibited inhibitory effects on mouse skin tumor promotion. Disclosed are single-phase antiperspirant compositions and corresponding methods of application, wherein the compositions are single-phase systems that comprise a solubilized antiperspirant active, a volatile silicone and selected coupling materials that are substantially free of Si—OH and Si—H functional groups and that have a solubility parameter of from about 7 to about 12, wherein the sum total solubility parameter of the essential components in the composition is from about 9 to about 13. These compositions provide improved low residue performance, enhanced stability, improved efficacy, and/or improved cosmetics.
Disclosed are liquid anhydrous antiperspirant emulsions, comprising (a) an external phase containing a non-volatile hydrophobic liquid; and (b) an internal phase containing an antiperspirant active solubilized in a polar solvent; wherein the emulsions have an external to internal phase ratio of at least about 1.25 and a weight ratio of the non-volatile hydrophobic liquid to the combination of antiperspirant active and polar solvent in the internal phase of at least about 0.33. The anhydrous antiperspirant emulsions provide little or no visible residue on the skin and also provide for a smooth, dry, non-sticky, skin-feel during and after application. These emulsions are especially useful when delivered from a roll-on applicator.

Disclosed are pressurized antiperspirant compositions comprising (a) a polyol solvent having at least 4 carbon atoms and a hydroxyl group on each of the &agr; and &bgr; carbon atoms of the polyol solvent; (b) solubilized antiperspirant active; (c) dimethylether; (d) a low polarity liquid having a solubility parameter of less than about 8.0, wherein the weight ratio of the dimethylether to low polarity solvent is from about 0.1 to about 2.8 It has been found that these compositions are especially useful in formulating clear or single-phase pressurized antiperspirant compositions that remain stable over prolonged periods and that can be formulated without ethanol or aqueous solvents.
