By the REFORMATZKY reaction between citral and ethyl bromoacetate, ethyl citrylideneacetate and a partly cristallized bicyclic δ-lactone have been obtained. The lactone, m. p. 64°, not noticed by other workers, has been studied. The saturated dihydro compound, m. p. 36°, has been prepared. Reduction of the two lactones gave the two corresponding monocyclic diols, m. p. 119° and 80° respectively. The
