The gas-phase ion-molecule reactions of simple anions (HO−, CH3O−, NH2−) with SO2F2 proceed with rate constants close to the collision limit. The energy surface for the OH−/SO2F2 reaction has been characterized by ab initio calculations using basis functions adapted for a pseudopotential and corrected for anionic systems by the generator coordinate method (GCM) at the QCISD(T)/(ECP/TZV/GCM) level.

The recombination reaction Cl+FSO3+M→FSO2OCl+M has been studied by ArF excimer laser photolysis-visible absorption spectroscopy in the pressure range 24–708 Torr of the bath gases He and CF4 at 297 K. FSO2 + FSO3 → FS(O2)O(O2)SF has been studied at 298 K. Both radicals were generated by 193-nm laser flash photolysis of FS(O2)O(O2)SF at total CO pressures ranging from 130 to 800 mbar. The decay of FSO3 radical was monitored by absorption spectroscopy at 450 nm.
