Glaucine (2), an aporphine alkaloid, when treated with HBr gas in dichloromethane for five days at room temperature afforded thaliporphine (1), a potent cardiotonic agent, lirioferine (7), N-methyllaurotetanine (8) and bracteoline (9), in 20%, 10%, 4% and 7% yields, respectively.
