Liriodenine was evaluated for its antibacterial and antifungalactivity against several microorganisms. Other relatedoxoaporphinealkaloids also were evaluated. Attempts to prepare oxoaporphinealkaloids from N-acetylnoraporphines were unsuccessful, but an unexpected phenanthrene alkaloid was obtained. A novel N-demethylation reaction was noted when oxogaucine methiodide and liriodenine methiodide
Antimicrobial compositions useful in mammal and plants comprising liriodenine, dehydroglaucine, liriodenine methiodide and oxoglaucine methiodide compounds and mixtures thereof. The antimicrobial compositions are particularly useful against Gram positive bacteria, acid fast bacteria and fungi and yeast.
