Fifteen new formazans were synthesized by the condensation of the 4‐nitrophenylhydrazone of 3‐nitro‐anisaldehyde with the appropriate phenyldiazonium salts. Their in vivo antiviral activity was evaluated against Ranikhet disease virus (RDV) in chick embryos. Out of the compounds screened, 1‐[4′‐carboxyphenyl]‐3‐[3‐nitro‐4‐methoxyphenyl]‐5‐[4‐nitrophenyl]formazan (8) showed maximum (62.5%) protection
