A functional coordination polymer decorated with urea hydrogen-bonding donor groups has been designed for optimal binding of sulfate; self-assembly of a tripodal tris-urea linker with Ag2SO4 resulted in the formation of a 1D metalâorganic framework that encapsulates SO42â anions via twelve complementary hydrogen bonds, which represents the highest coordination number observed for sulfate in a natural or synthetic host.

Simple tris(2-aminoethyl)amine (TREN) based tripodal urea receptors are investigated for the encapsulation of divalent oxalate (C2O42−) in a semi-aqueous medium. A single crystal X-ray diffraction study shows that the receptor with 3-cyanophenyl functionality captures a staggered conformer whereas the 3-fluorophenyl functionalized receptor encapsulates a less stable planar conformer.

Ions in a Dimeric Capsule That Efficiently Extracts Chromate, Sulfate, and Thiosulfate from Water by Anion‐Exchange Metathesis
