n-alkylaniline substituted 1,3,5-benzentricarboxamides are demonstrated to possess lyotropic liquid crystalline properties. Using NMR spectroscopy, the self-assembly behaviour within the constituting homologous series is investigated and effects of the sidechains aromatic ring and aliphatic chain on supramolecular behaviour characterized.
