    A series of extraordinarily long oligothiophenes up to the 96-mer has been developed by iterative oxidative coupling of the completely beta-blocked sexithiophene. They are highly conjugated like nonsubstituted oligothiophenes, and the effective conjugation of this system is extended to 96 thiophene units and much longer than that previously speculated for polythiophenes.

    A series of oligothiophenes covered with tert-butyldiphenylsilyl (TBDPS) groups was synthesized, and the spectroscopic measurements and X-ray analyses revealed that the oligothiophene backbone is completely encapsulated by bulky TBDPS groups.

    Provided are an organic semiconductor material that can be subjected to a welding process and allows a stable n-type transistor operation even in an atmosphere, an organic semiconductor device using the same, and their production methods. The organic semiconductor material includes a compound represented by the general formula (1): where each of R1 through R4 independently is an atom or functional group selected from the group consisting of (i) a hydrogen atom, (ii) a halogen atom, (iii) an alkyl group in which one or more carbon atoms may be substituted by an oxygen atom and/or a sulfur atom and in which one or more hydrogen atoms may be substituted by a halogen atom, (iv) an alkyloxy group, (v) an alkylthio group, (vi) an aryl group, and (vii) an alkyl group in which one or more hydrogen atoms are substituted by an aryl group; each of R5 and R6 independently is a sulfur atom or a selenium atom; and a, b, and c are integers.

    The present invention provide a covered heteroaromatic ring compound whose hetero ring effectively is covered and that is suitable for electronic materials and the like. For example, following Scheme 1 below, first, a thiophene monomer unit (1T) is synthesized, and then oligomers (2T) to (16T) are synthesized by repeating oxidative polymerization. The hetero ring is not limited to thiophene, and may be furan or pyrrole, for example. Also, substituents on silicon are not limited to those in Scheme 1, and any substituents may be used. The degree of polymerization and the synthesis method are not limited to those in Scheme 1. In the compound of the present invention, π electronic conjugation effectively is kept as shown in the ultraviolet and visible absorption spectrum in FIG. 1 , for example. Accordingly, the compound is useful, for example, as a research tool for clarifying electrical properties according to the degree of polymerization of oligoheterocyclic compounds, and as molecular wires that are important in molecular electronics devices.
