A process for producing a thermoplastic polyoxazolidinone comprising copolymerizing a diisocyanate compound with a bisepoxide compound in the presence of a catalyst, in a solvent, wherein the solvent is characterized by a cohesive energy density δ2, the cohesive energy density δ2 being the sum of a component δD2, δD2 being characteristic of dispersion forces between molecules of the solvent, a component δP2, δP2 being characteristic of dipolar intermolecular forces between molecules of the solvent, and a component δH2, δH2 being characteristic of hydrogen bond forces between molecules of the solvent with: δ2 = δD2 + δP2 + δH2; wherein at 25 °C δD has a value of 18.0 MPa0.5 to 20.0 MPa0,5, δP has a value of 8.0 MPa0,5 to 15.0 MPa0,5, and δH has a value of 2.5 MPa0,5 to 9.0 MPa0,5. The invention is also related to the resulting thermoplastic polyoxazolidinone.
