    Copolyesters consisting essentially of terephthalic acid units and ethylene glycol units, and further comprising 1 to 4 mole % of alicyclic or aliphatic bifunctional compound units (a1) or 0.5 to 7 mole % of bifunctional compound units (a2) derived from a specific aromatic diol or bifunctional compound units (a3) derived from a condensed ring or ring assembly type aromatic dicarboxylic acid, 0.005 to 1 mole % of multi-functional compound units (b1), and a specific amount of monofunctional compound units (c); copolyesters having a specific intrinsic viscosity and consisting essentially of terephthalic acid units and ethylene glycol units, and further comprising 0.5 to 7 mole % of the above bifunctional compound units (a2) and 0.005 to 1 mole % of specific multi-functional compound units (b2) or (b3); and copolyesters consisting essentially of terephthalic acid units and ethylene glycol units, and further comprising 0.5 to 7 mole % of the above bifunctional compound units (a3) and 0.005 to 0.5 mole % of the multi-functional compound units (b1). These copolyesters have excellent melt moldability, in particular extrusion blow moldability and give molded articles having excellent transparency, impact resistance, gelation characteristics, appearance, tactility, mechanical properties, heat resistance, chemical resistance and dimensional precision.

    A carbon black graft polymer which excels in stability of dispersion in various media, coloring property, and imperviousness to light is obtained by mixing under heating a block- or graft-copolymer having a segment (A) containing a reactive group capable of reacting with a functional group on the surface of carbon black and a segment (B) different in skeletal structure from the segment (A) with carbon black. The carbon black graft polymer, by causing the graft chain thereof to incorporate therein an ethylenically unsaturated double bond and/or a carboxyl group, is enabled to manifest photosensitivity, developability with an alkali, and insulating property and acquire usefulness for a black photocurable resin composition such as, for example, the material for the formation of a black matrix particularly in a color filter.

    A biaxially oriented film which is made substantially of (1) a polyethylene naphthalate copolymer comprising an ethylene naphthalate unit in an amount of 92 to 99.5 mol% based on all recurring units and at least one copolymer component selected from the group consisting of (a) a glycol having a fluorene skeleton in the molecule, (b) p-hydroxymethylbenzoic acid, (c) p-hydroxyethoxybenzoic acid and (d) p-hydroxyethoxyethoxybenzoic acid in an amount of 0.5 to 8 mol% based on the total of all dicarboxylic acid components, and which has (2) Young's moduli in both longitudinal and transverse directions of 500 kg/mm2 or more and (3) a delamination resistance of 10 % or less in terms of fold line whitening ratio. Since this biaxially oriented film of the present invention is excellent in delamination resistance, curling resistance, mechanical strength, color and transparency, it is of great value as a base film for a photo film.
