A series of 2-substituted benzofuran hydroxyamic acids were synthesized as rigid analogs of simple (benzyloxy)phenyl hydroxamates, evaluated for their in vitro and in vivo 5-lipoxygenase activity and found to be potent inhibitors of the enzyme.
