LaCl3 reacts with TlC5H4PPh2 and NaCp in the molar ratio 1:2:1 to form the bidentate, monomeric tris(cyclopentadienyl) lanthanum derivative CpLa(C5H4PPh2)2(THF) (1). Crystals of 1 belong to the monoclinic space group P21/m with a = 870(1), b = 2000.9(5), c = 1016(1) pm, β = 93.03(5)°, V = 1772.4·10−30 m3 and Z = 2.
