An efficient synthesis of licofelone, an anti-inflammatory drug currently undergoing phase-III clinical studies, based on Fenton-type radical alkylation of 2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrrolizine 3 with iodoacetonitrile or iodoacetates is reported.
