X-ray structures of adducts of 1,2,5-triphenylphosphole with dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate: a confirmation, a revision, and a new structure

Dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate was reacted with 1,2,5-triphenylphosphole under mild conditions, and four products isolated. Regardless of conditions used, every preparation gave low yields of dimethyl 3,6-diphenylphthalate coincident with loss of the phosphorus bridge.
