The reaction of alkoxycarbonyl- and cyanomethylene(triphenyl)phosphoranes with 3,3-diphenylindan-1,2-dione in dry benzene at room temperature for about 5 h led to the formation of a mixture of ( E )- and ( Z )-diastereomers.
