  Gem-disubstituted cyclohexadienone in which the gem substituents are a perfluoroalkyl group and a trihydrocar­bylsiloxy group are prepared by perfluoroalkylating a quinone with a perfluoroalkyltrihydrocarbylsilane in the presence of an active catalyst under essentially anhydrous conditions, preferably in a suitable liquid phase reaction medium, most preferably in a dipolar aprotic solvent.
