A series of N,N′-dialkylated derivatives of (1R,2R)-cyclohexane-1,2-diamine were synthesized, and a new approach to the one-pot preparation of this type of amine was demonstrated. The prepared diamines were used as organocatalysts for the two-stepsynthesis of α-hydroxy γ-keto esters from arenes, chlorooxoacetates, and ketones; they were also used as chiral ligands for Meervein–Ponndorf–Verley reductions

Two diastereopure ligands, N,N'-bis(4-pyridyl)idene(1R,2R)- diaminocyclohexane (L-1)) and N,N'-bis (3-pyridyl)idene(1R,2R)-diaminocyclohexane (L-2), have been synthesized and characterized. The interaction of L-1 with Ag(I) ions and L-2 with Cd(II) ions has been investigated. The structure of [Ag(L-1)(2)] (CF3SO3)center dot 4H(2)O) (1) exhibits a (4,4)-connected two-dimensional sheet with a corrugated surface and the complex [Cd(L-2)(2)(NO3)(3H(2)O)n center dot NO3 center dot 2H(2)O (2) forms an infinite single helical chain with a pitch of 47.25 angstrom. When viewed from the top of the chain, the infinite helical chain forms the wall of a hexagonal nanochannel with an opening of similar to 1.2 x 1.2 nm. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
