    A process for producing wax ester comprising of esterifying dihydroxy fatty acid preferably dihydroxystearic acid with at least one alcohol in the presence of lipase as a catalyst which is then remove by filtration. The filtered catalyst could be reuse and provides a number of cost advantages. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the dihydroxystearic acid is derived from palm based oleic acid and the alcohol contains 8 to 18 carbon atoms per molecules.

    AbstractDihydroxystearic acid (DHSA) ester was synthesized enzymatically to overcome the problems associated with chemical processes. Immobilized enzyme, Lipozyme IM and Novozym 435, were employed as catalysts in the esterification reaction between DHSA and monohydric alcohol. Various factors that may affect the esterification reaction were studied, such as initial water content (aw), organic solvent, substrate concentration and the influence of alcohol chain length. It was found that the percent conversion was higher in organic solvents with log P (the logarithm of the partition coefficient of solvent in octanol/water system) from 2.0 to 4.0. The reaction was not affected by aw from 0.09 to 0.96. Increasing the mole ratio of alcohol to acid above 2.0 did not increase the percent converions of ester. The ester was identified by Fourier transform infrared and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.

    This invention relates to a biocidal composition resistant to the formation of a gel and to the method for stabilizing a concentrate containing, in addition to the biocide, a carbodiimide, a lipophilic/hydrophilic emulsifier mixture having a HLB of 6 to 20 and optionally an oil and/or an alkoxylated ester of a polyhydroxylated compound, by adding to the concentrate an effective anti-gelling amount of an anti-gelling agent selected from the group of an inorganic oxide, a epoxidized naturally occurring or synthetic vegetable oil and an epoxylated ester of a saturated or unsaturated C 6 to C 18 aliphatic acid optionally containing hydroxy substitution and mixtures of the foregoing anti-gelling agents.
