The reactivity of a series of electron-deficient isoindolium-based allenes 1 with sulfhydryl compounds has been studied. The vinyl sulfides 2 generated were converted into indanones 3 and amines 4 in good yields upon heating at 30–70 °C. Applications of the vinyl sulfides 2 include the design and synthesis of a novel FRET-based fluorescent temperature sensor and chemoselective cysteine bioconjugation
