AbstractEs wird die Kondensation von 1,4‐Dihalogenalkanen und Cyanessigester zu alkylsubstituierten 1‐Cyano‐cyclopentancarbonsäureestern und die Verseifung der letzteren zu alkylierten 1‐Carbamylcyclopentancarbonsäureestern beschrieben.Pharmakologisch zeigen der racemische und der meso‐1‐Carbamyl‐2,5‐dimethyl‐cyclopentancarbonsäure‐äthylester in bezug auf ihre narkotischen Eigenschaften und Ihre Toxizität einen deutlichen Unterschied.

Abstract Knoevenagelcondensation of aromatic, aliphatic, and heteroaromatic aldehydes with active methylene compounds such as ethylcyanoacetate, malononitrile, and cyanoacetamide proceed very smoothly at room temperature by simply mixing the ingredients together undersolvent-freeconditions in the presence of N-methylpiperazine in excellent yields of the E-configured products.

The basicionicliquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hydroxide, [bmIm]OH, efficiently catalyzes Knoevenagel condensation without requirement of any organic solvent. A wide range of aliphatic and aromatic aldehydes and ketones easily undergo condensations with diethyl malonate, malononitrile, ethyl cyanoacetate, malonic acid and ethyl acetoacetate.
