The lithio derivative of phenyl trimethylsilylmethyl sulfide undergoes smooth addition to activated ethylene derivatives to afford trimethylsilylcyclopropanes, except for the addition to methyl 2-phenylpropenoate which leads to the formation of methyl 4-trimethylsilyl-2-phenyl-4-(phenylthio)butanoate.
t-butanol containing potassium t-butoxide and in ethanol containing sodiumethoxide. The rates of the E2 reaction of the sulphur compounds are found to be 102–103 times as great as those of the corresponding oxygen analogues in both media. These rates can be correlated with Hammett σ values. The ρ values obtained for sulphur compounds are 1·98 and 2·14 in t-butanol and ethanol, while those for oxygen
Efficient transformations of trithio- and triseleno-orthoesters into ketene dithio- and diseleno-acetals

Sequential treatment of trithio- and triseleno-orthoesters with a Lewis acid followed by a base leads to ketenedithio- and diseleno-acetals in good yield; SnCl4 or TiCl4 and Pri2EtN or Et3N are the most efficient reagents.

Commercially available copper(I) bromide - dimethyl sulfide complex is comparable to the far more expensive copper(I) triflate in assisting the removal of the thiophenoxide group from certain substrates.
